Finishing Technical Manager @ BellInc


A. Position Summary

This position is responsible for safety, quality and productivity enhancements that assist the manufacturing facility to achieve and exceed standards as dictated by the Profit Plan. This includes technical applications, operational constancy, innovations, maintenance, preventative maintenance and program implementation throughout the facility with special consideration, but not limited to, the string and tape applications in the Finishing Department.

B. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Area of responsibility is entire Bell Incorporated facility*
  • Assist employees in developing a safe work environment, habits and enforcement of these rules*

Results to be measured daily via OSHA 200 log

  • Assure quality standards are met for finished product per customer and ISO standards
  • Instruct, train and develop crews that meet or exceed production standards on a shift by shift and daily basis

Results measured daily with 100% being standard measure

Teach/Train backup operators for unforeseen contingencies

  • Professionally exhibit and instill a sense urgency in production team members
  • Continuous improvement process of processes, procedures and people
  • Spoilage control from Finish Dept to be between 2-4%
  • Reduction of unscheduled machine downtime hours

Test, record, analyze, organize and maintain maintenance records on all equipment

Develop and implement Preventative Maintenance Standard Operating manuals and checklists

Create a Predictive Maintenance program and process to complement preventive maintenance

  • Troubleshooting and repair of all equipment
  • Jagenberg Jpack, Bobst Alpena, Jagenberg Gluer experience preferred.
  • Coordinate purchasing of any parts and supplies with the Finishing Technical Manager, Maintenance Team Leader by ISO purchasing standards
  • 95% of work day is to be spent on the production floor
  • Ability to put forth extra effort to produce a quality product and develop dedicated work crews
  • Ability to represent Bell Inc., at customer’s locations as needed for troubleshooting problems in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
  • Adaptability to flexible work schedule as production demands.

B. Organizational Relationships

  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees to accomplish Bell’s goals and objectives
  • Major reporting status to Manufacturing Manager
  • Interaction with Shift Supervisors, Finish Dept Manager and Technical Manager, Maintenance Department technicians, and Production Scheduler

C. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Functional understanding of folding carton manufacturing to include raw materials used, equipment employed and its basic operation, established quality systems and general production scheduling
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with all levels of Bell Incorporated employees both orally and written
  • Strong problem solving/troubleshooting skills to identify cause, effect and solutions
  • Ability to make timely decisions, exercise good judgment and take action in the absence of guidance
  • Capacity to lead by example and direct efficient work teams
  • Must be positive, self-motivated and work with a minimum of supervision
  • Appreciation for confidentiality with process, programs and people
